Here's a piece of script from today's write. It's a bit of a longer scene, but it's bringing Charlotte and Danny together, setting up the next scene perfectly for their sweet montage, and by sweet I mean an awe moment, and by awe moment, I totally mean sweet moment. You get the picture. But here is a scene with Danny and Charlotte in their hotel room, the last night they're in London before heading back to the states.
INT. HOTEL - NIGHT
Charlotte and Danny are getting ready for bed. Charlotte is
throwing pillows on the ground next to a stack of sheets,
made up to be a bed. She is in her pajamas. Danny is in the
bathroom, touching his forehead where he got cut.
DANNY
I’ve always wanted to try a
mothball.
CHARLOTTE
Ew. Why?
DANNY
You know how on Looney Tunes or Tom
and Jerry back in the day, they
usually put mothballs in their
concoctions.
CHARLOTTE
As poison.
Danny touches the sensitive part of his cut.
DANNY
Dammit.
Danny turns off the bathroom light and walks into the room.
Charlotte sits on the bed.
CHARLOTTE
Okay.
DANNY
Yeah, it just hurts like hell.
Danny sits on the bed.
CHARLOTTE
Here, let me see.
Danny flinches away.
DANNY
I’m too proud.
Charlotte shakes her head, scoots over to him, and sits
Indian style, resting a knee on his leg.
CHARLOTTE
Don’t be stubborn.
Charlotte lightly touches her fingers to the cut and looks
at it. Danny is looking at her.
Silence.
DANNY
Thank you.
Charlotte stops for a moment and looks at him.
CHARLOTTE
For what?
DANNY
For bringing me here.
CHARLOTTE
(laughs)
You paid your own way.
Charlotte sighs and looks at him.
DANNY
I was a jerk to you, Lotte. You put
up with a lot, and you were always
so kind about it.
Charlotte looks down and bites her nails.
CHARLOTTE
(hesitates)
My mom always told me to kill them
with kindness.
Danny smiles. Charlotte looks back at the cut.
CHARLOTTE
(smiles)
But it looks like you’re gonna
live.
Charlotte sits back on her hands. Her knee hasn’t moved from
being on his leg. Danny and Charlotte are looking into each
other’s eyes.
Silence.
After awhile...
CHARLOTTE
You know, you’re still the only
person I can look directly in the
eyes.
DANNY
(smiels)
It’s a sign of intimacy. It’s hard
to lose that once it’s been
established.
CHARLOTTE
That it is.
Pause.
Charlotte sighs and scoots back away from him towards her
pillow.
CHARLOTTE (CONT’D)
We have an early flight in the
morning. We should get some rest.
Danny nods. Danny and Charlotte both lie down. Charlotte
turns off the light.
Pause.
CHARLOTTE
Hey, Danny?
DANNY
Yeah.
CHARLOTTE
(pause)
What are you thinking?
DANNY
(pause)
I’m just bummed we have to go back
to the states tomorrow.
CHARLOTTE
Remember back in college how we
used to joke about being such
fantastic roommates?
DANNY
(smiles)
We were going to have joust wars in
the hallways.
CHARLOTTE
(giggles)
We would’ve created such havoc.
Pause.
DANNY
Lotte?
CHARLOTTE
Yeah.
DANNY
(pause)
Do you ever feel lonely?
CHARLOTTE
What do you mean?
DANNY
I don’t know. Just, do you ever
feel lonely?
Charlotte bites her nails.
CHARLOTTE
(pause)
There are many times that I feel
alone, but I can’t say that I’m
lonely. I am content, and I do fine
on my own. I thrive off
independence, so no, I’m not
lonely.
(pause)
I just would like there to be
someone else once in awhile.
(pause)
Are you lonely?
Danny bites his nails.
DANNY
I’m fine. I work best on my own.
(pause)
I’m about the same.
Charlotte smiles. Pause.
CHARLOTTE
What are we, Danny?
DANNY
What?
Charlotte looks over the side of the bed at Danny.
CHARLOTTE
(swallows)
What are we?
Danny looks at her.
DANNY
We’re friends.
Pause.
Danny looks up at the ceiling.
DANNY (CONT’D)
I actually consider you my best
friend.
Charlotte smiles and lays back straight. She turns on her
side and faces away from Danny.
CHARLOTTE
(quietly)
Ditto.
Pause.
DANNY
What’s your story about?
Charlotte asleep, out cold. Danny sits up a bit and looks up
at her. He smiles and lays back down. He turns on his side
facing away from Charlotte and falls asleep.

I really like this Kylee :) I want to read the rest! And how did he get the cut??
ReplyDeleteI super love the lines "kill 'em with kindness... But it looks like you're gonna live." Clever and a great transition :)
Aw. :) Thanks! Hehe. He got the cut in a pub in London. A couple of British men were arguing formally about darts, one bumped into him, and he hit his head on the counter. It actually got pretty comical. But yeah. That's what happened.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks! I thought it was pretty clever too! :) Thanks!
